Older Adult Services

Senior Services

Lutheran Family Services of Virginia's new Older Adult Services program will help aging adults and their caregivers make important decisions during this natural life transition. Although there are losses associated with aging, our focus will be on the strengths of the individual and the family to ensure that the worth and dignity of each person is honored.

LFSVA currently offers Geriatric Care Assessment in the Richmond area with plans to expand this service to other areas in the state. Over the next year, we will be developing programs that help older adults age in place in their homes and communities, caregiver support, information and referral, and collaboration with a number of community and faith-based organizations to assist older adults in managing life changes.

What is a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment? This important tool helps determine how well an older person is functioning and is often the first step in developing a plan of care. It considers the psychological, emotional, medical and physical situation of the older person; family, social and community supports; legal and financial status; and environmental safety.A Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment is helpful when an adult needs home care services, in-home care assistance, assistance with relocation, placement in a nursing home or assisted living facility, or help with other age-related issues.
